Prop firm consistency rule calculator: each firm's wording, with examples
A consistency rule calculator and worked examples for five futures prop firms: how much more profit you need, and how losing days change the result.
By Matthew Hendricks, from the firms' own help pages. Sources read . No affiliate links (about this guide).
A consistency rule caps how much of your profit may come from one day. The firm picks a percentage, takes your best day, and compares it with either your total profit or your profit target. The firms below word it differently, and some firms’ own pages word it two ways.
None of the firms below say that going over the line fails the account. Topstep and Take Profit Trader say you need more profit before you finish; Tradeify, MyFundedFutures and Apex say the account is not failed or penalized. Read each firm’s own page for your account type, since funded and payout stages have their own rules that this page mostly leaves out.

How much more do I need to make?
Take your best day and divide it by the percentage the firm allows. The answer is the total profit that makes the best day fit. The calculator above does this for each wording; here it is by hand, with made-up numbers.
- Total-profit wording. Your best day was $1,000. At 40% (Tradeify SelectS4) a day at exactly 40% meets the rule, so a total of at least $1,000 ÷ 0.40 = $2,500 is enough. At 30% (MyFundedFutures Rapid EOD, “should not exceed”S7) you need at least $3,333.34, which is $3,333.33 rounded up to the next cent. At 50% (Take Profit Trader, “must be below 50%”S9) a day at exactly 50% is over the line, so $2,000 is not enough: you need more than $2,000.
- Profit-target wording. Topstep compares the best day with the Profit Target and gives the formula “Best Day ÷ 0.55 = Total Profit Needed”S1. A best day of $1,800 gives $1,800 ÷ 0.55 = $3,272.73, so the Profit Target goes up from $3,000 to $3,272.73.
Check the firm’s word first: “below” means exactly the limit is over, and “at or below” or “should not exceed” means exactly the limit is fine. The percentages come from the firms’ pages. The $1,000 and $1,800 are not from any firm.
When a losing day pushes the best day over the limit
A losing day lowers your total profit, so your best day becomes a bigger share of it. Made-up example at 40% of total profit:
| Days so far | Total profit | Best day | Best day as a share of total |
|---|---|---|---|
| +600, +400, +500, +500 | $2,000 | $600 | 30.0%, within 40% |
| then −400 | $1,600 | $600 | 37.5%, within 40% |
| then −300 | $1,300 | $600 | 46.2%, over 40% |
At 40% the $600 best day needs a total of at least $1,500 ($600 ÷ 0.40), so after the second loss you would need $200 more. Tradeify’s page says the same: “a day at exactly 40% of your total meets the rule”S4. Topstep adds that “losses do not reset your best day”S1.
Evaluation or payout stage?
The pages read for this page describe different stages. Check yours before you rely on a percentage.
| Firm | What the page read describes | Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| Topstep | Trading Combine and program pagesS1,S2 | 55% of the Profit Target |
| Tradeify (Select) | Evaluation onlyS4 | 40% of total profit |
| MyFundedFutures (Rapid EOD) | Evaluation onlyS8 | 30% of total evaluation profits |
| Take Profit Trader | Test accountS9 | 50% of total net profits |
| Apex | Payout request only; “Not Applied” in the evaluationS11,S12 | 50% of total accumulated profit |
The funded-account rules of Topstep, Tradeify, MyFundedFutures and Take Profit Trader were not read for this page, so it does not state them.
What each firm says
All evaluation figures are for the 50K account unless noted. S numbers jump to the sources.
Topstep
55% of the Profit Target. “Your single best day of profit must stay at or below 55% of your Profit Target.” Topstep adds: “55% is a hard line. It is not rounded, and there is no buffer.”S1 Past the line, “your Profit Target increases”, by the formula “Best Day ÷ 0.55 = Total Profit Needed”S1. A day’s value locks in at 3:10 PM CT, and “losses do not reset your best day”S1.
Tradeify (Select)
40% of total profit, in the evaluation only. “No single trading day can represent more than 40% of your total profit”, and “a day at exactly 40% of your total meets the rule”S4. The firm’s formula is “Biggest End of Day PnL / Consistency % = Total Balance Needed”, the account “will not fail or be penalized for having high consistency”, and commissions are not included in profitS5. Losing days shrink total profit and so raise your best day’s share. The Growth evaluation has no consistency requirementS6.
MyFundedFutures (Rapid EOD)
30% of total evaluation profits, evaluation onlyS8. The firm’s page says “no single day’s profit should exceed” the percentage, and that “exceeding the consistency targets does not breach the account”S7. The same page gives 50% for the Rapid Intraday and Pro plansS7.
Take Profit Trader (Test account)
50% of total net profits. “Your best trading day must be below 50% of your total net profits.” If it is not, “you have not failed the test account; you simply need to increase your total profit goal”S9.
Apex Trader Funding
Not in the evaluation on the newer page, which lists consistency as “Not Applied”S12. It applies at a payout request: “no single trading day accounts for more than 50% of your total accumulated profit at the time of a payout request”, and “being above the 50% consistency does not fail your account”S11.

Where the firms’ own pages disagree
- Topstep, equal to the line. The consistency page says “at or below 55%”S1. The parameters page says the best day “should stay below 55%”S2. The consistency page’s own table gives “Less than $1,650” for 50KS1.
- Topstep, what it is a share of. The consistency and parameters pages say the Profit TargetS1,S2. The program overview says “total profits”S3. The overview is the oldest page, dated 2026-09-10.
- Take Profit Trader, what it is a share of. The rule page says total net profitsS9. The FAQ says you “cannot make 50% or more of your test account’s profit target in a single day”S10. Both agree that exactly 50% is over the line.
- Apex, equal to the line. The text says the result “must be below 50%”S11. The same page’s example marks a day at exactly 50% “Consistency Met”S11.
The calculator below shows each of these readings side by side, so you can see whether the difference changes your result.
What the calculator does not do
It does not apply a firm’s other rules, such as drawdown, minimum days or payout amounts. It reads the wording literally and does not know your account type or when it was bought. Firms change their pages, so check the firm’s page for your account.
Quick answers
How much more do I need to make if my best day is too big?
Divide your best day by the percentage the firm allows. A $1,000 best day at 40% needs a total profit of $2,500. Topstep gives the formula Best Day ÷ 0.55 = Total Profit Needed, against its Profit Target.
Can a losing day put me over the consistency limit?
Yes, where the rule compares the best day with total profit. A losing day lowers the total, so the best day becomes a bigger share. Topstep says losses do not reset your best day.
What is a prop firm consistency rule?
A limit on how much of your profit may come from your single best day. A firm sets a percentage, and compares your best day with either your total profit or your profit target.
Does breaking the consistency rule fail the account?
At the firms read for this page, the pages say it does not. Topstep and Take Profit Trader raise the profit you need; Tradeify, MyFundedFutures and Apex say the account is not failed or penalized. Check the firm's page for your account type.
Does Apex have a consistency rule in the evaluation?
Apex's newer evaluation page lists consistency as not applied. Its 50% rule applies at a payout request.
