Release history for Matchstick Replay

2026-10-09 — Record an order book yourself

  • A guide to recording a few minutes of Kraken’s public BTC/USD book with a short script and replaying it in your browser. No account needed. Guide: Record an order book yourself.

2026-09-24 — Continuous playback

  • Play a session continuously, and pause at any point. Speeds start at 0.25x.
  • The fastest speed offered is measured on your device when a session loads, so it varies by machine and session.

2026-09-23 — Bring your own data

2026-09-22 — Matchstick Replay app

  • Matchstick Replay now runs at app.matchstick.trading.
  • Import your own recorded OpenCandle V1 sessions; they are stored locally in your browser.
  • Export sessions with source provenance per session.
  • Built-in synthetic BTC/USD sample sessions.

2026-08-24 — Matchstick Replay public preview

Matchstick has consolidated around Replay: a browser-based debugger for recorded market data.

  • Launched the interactive preview at replay.matchstick.trading.
  • Added a built-in deterministic demonstration session.
  • Added event-by-event playback, seeking, speed controls, and bookmarks.
  • Added synchronized inspection of L1, L2, cumulative depth, and candle state.
  • Preserved price and quantity values using exact decimal representations.
  • Added schema-boundary normalization for OpenCandle V1, tuple feeds, and JSON records.
  • Added session export with source provenance, bookmarks, and complete event history.
  • Added privacy-conscious product feedback without recording replay payloads or session contents.

Current limitations

  • Recorded-session import is not publicly available yet.
  • The interface remains an experimental preview.
  • Supported formats and session sizes may change.

2026 — Deterministic Replay Engine

  • Established the ordered-event replay model.
  • Made session-plus-cursor position the reproducibility boundary.
  • Added deterministic order-book reconstruction from snapshots and diffs.
  • Added fixed-point price, size, and cumulative-depth calculations using bigint arithmetic.
  • Separated source adapters from the normalized replay state.

Earlier experiments

Matchstick previously explored live execution, event monitoring, hosted datasets, CLI tools, and broker integrations. Those experiments informed Replay but are not part of the current product roadmap.

See the archived changelog for the full history of earlier releases including Matchstick Radar, Events, CLI, and the Alpaca adapter.
